photojournalism

This photo was taken by Tom Stoddart in November 2007. The setting is in Africa where it is estimated that 9,00 people die from AIDs everyday. The black and white(mood) in the photo emphasizes the sorrow in the lifestyle of the innocent boy. He is getting helped into a bathtub because he is unable to do it himself and it is painful just watching his skinny body get out of the wheelchair because although he is very young, he is dying.
This photo, taken by Robert F. Sargent captures the action of the war and the journey of the soldiers who fight in it. The soldiers are emphasized but they are not facing the camera. The black and white in it once again goes with the sad mood, because they could die any moment. The foggy background could symbolize the fact that they don't really know what lies ahead of them.
This picture, taken my John Filo of Kent State shows the suffering of a woman who has lost someone she loved in the shooting when the National Guard killed four students. Black and white also emphasizes the sorrow in this picture. The people who surround her don't seem to be too surprised or concerned with what has happened and I think this captures how common death and sorrow were during World War 2.
This picture by Nick Ut is of a naked girl who is running away from her home, Nepalm with other children who are beside her. It's crushing just to look at this picture because one assumes that her parents have died in the explosion that is happening behind her. She has nothing now, not even clothes on her back. The black and white again, emphasizes the sadness and grief of the picture. This picture was meant to make American's be in strong oppositon to the war that was happening in Vietnam.
This is a photo of an iraqui looter with a white flag in his hand. The American soldiers strangle and arrest him while going around Bagdad in search of more looters. The soldier is yelling at the looter, this shows the mood of anger. It could be used as the rule of thirds since the emphasis is on the man who is being strangled.
